Accessing the observatory

The observatory is located on the Mont Gros, a nice hill on the eastern side of the city. Although hiking or biking may be an option, we will arrange a daily shuttle for participants.

The daily shuttle will leave each morning from Port Lympia, then make a stop near the bottom of the Grande Corniche before heading to the observatory. It will then leave each evening, making the same two stops on the way back.

We recommend staying in a hotel in the port or in Riquier to be near the shuttle bus. More details will be provided in due time, including the exact times and location for the bus stops.

Attendees can also reach the observatory via the Lignes d'Azur 84 bus (stop "Observatoire") or by car.

Coming to Nice

Nice is a well-connected city, yet squeezed between sea and mountains: you will find multiple trains and flights arriving/landing in Nice every day, from multiple destinations.

  • by train https://www.sncf-connect.com/en-en/
  • by plane https://www.nice.aeroport.fr/en Aeroport Nice Côte d'Azur is the second biggest airport in France. The airport is directly connected to the tramway L2 which can be used to easily reach the downtown of Nice. Taxis are available but expensive.
  • by car If you plan to come to Nice by car, please ensure that your hotel has a parking spot available for you. It is quite complicated to park the car in the city, and private parking is expensive. If you need to park on the road during your stay, probably the easiest option is to install the "paybyphone" app on your smartphone (https://www.paybyphone.com/).

Where to stay

There is a large choice of hotels in the Nice area.  To access transportation to the meeting site, the observatory, please consider the East area of the town or anywhere along tramway L1, which can bring you there.
